HOW TO REDUCE SPAM

A spam filter is a software program that sorts incoming mail in order to identify and pull out junk mail, also known as spam. A spam filter can be installed on an Internet mail server, on a private network server, or on a personal computer. Spam is not only bothersome but can be used for spreading malicious code like viruses and Trojans, and for perpetuating phishing scams. For these reasons and more, a spam filter is a great way to help protect your computer or network and cut out junk mail.

An effective spam filter must block the maximum unwanted email.

TOP TIPS TO AVOID SPAM

  1. Avoid posting your full email address on public internet forums and websites.
  2. Use a secondary or 'disposable' email account for public use, or for when signing up to an online service.
  3. Never reply to spam email even if the text contains a 'remove' option. This only serves to validate your email address and will most likely result in you receiving even more spam email.

DON''T VALIDATE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS

Do not open spam emails, this will verify that your email address is both correct and active. If in doubt preview your messages before you open them or view a message's header to validate the email address.
